It was a beautful spring day to work outdoors and in a garden. Many people showed up to help including families, students, and teachers. There were many steps in the process! The old flower/plant beds needed to be removed. New metal ones were put together. Gravel was used for the base to help with drainage, followed by soil and then mulch. It was then time to plant! We planted asiatic lilies, eastern columbine (a native plant) and two blackberry bushes. Students in the Community Club later planted native flowers (echinacea and new england aster). In the future, we are going to add more metal raised garden beds and flexible seating.
Dr. Cheung provided pizza for everyone! There is more to come, including an art installation that will hange from the stone wall. Thank you to all who showed up and supported. We look forward to seeing our garden grow!
