Key Garden
The Key School garden was designed and built by students in the South Philadelphia High School carpentry program. Construction was completed in June 2015. We have four garden beds. In our raised beds, we have perennials such as a rose and butterfly bush. We also have native pollinator plants including milkweed, black eyed susan, and bee balm. Spring and summer bulbs bloom every year as well as fruits, herbs, and vegetables that are planted yearly.
Students in the Community Club explored the Key School garden and made observations of plant life. They discovered bee balm and chives beginning to sprout. Spring perennial bulbs and the rose bush began to blossom.
Every year, students at Francis Scott Key School participate in the PHS Junior Flower Shoe. This year the theme was Petal Power. The event was held on March 5, 2019. Students in third through sixth grade participated in ‘Instagram’ Nature - Photography, Far Out Flower Pots, and Botanical illustrations. This is an annual event at Key School.
